Data sourcing
How we source data
What we read to find a business, what we do not keep, and how to be left alone.
Published sources only
Businesses are found in two places, and both are public:
- The open Places dataset published by the Overture Maps Foundation: a business’s name, website, phone number and, when the listing carries one, its email address.
- The business’s own website, usually the home, contact and about pages, where it publishes its own contact details.
We do not buy a contact database to find businesses. We contact business addresses published in the business’s listing or on its own website, and company mailboxes such as info@ or sales@. We do not guess or build addresses for named people.
No shared pool of contacts
Each client’s contacts stay in that client’s own workspace. We do not keep a master database of people built up across clients, and we do not sell or hand one client’s contacts to another.
Our crawler
The website reading is done by ExiReachBot. It names itself on every request, checks robots.txt before every crawl, does not log in or submit forms, and reads only public pages. The page linked below lists every kind of page it reads.
To block it, or to have your details removed, see ExiReachBot.
Where the data is held
The platform and its database run in Helsinki, Finland, and backups are held in Falkenstein, Germany. Both are inside the European Economic Area. The privacy policy lists every provider and the transfers that remain.
Opting out
- Every first outreach email says where we found the address, and carries an unsubscribe link and a postal address.
- An unsubscribe is honoured. If you were contacted cold, your contact details are also cleared from the record.
- The opt-out goes on the opt-out list of the sender you gave it to, kept as an irreversible hash of the address, and that sender does not contact you again.
- A reply of STOP on WhatsApp opts the number out the same way.
